In the charming town of Mayville Heights, librarian Kathleen Paulson and her two cats pounce on clues to catch a killer, in the eleventh installment of this New York Times bestselling series.

Spring is coming to Mayville Heights, and Kathleen’s brother, Ethan, has arrived in town with his band, The Flaming Gerbils. But not everything goes as scheduled when one of Ethan’s bandmates gets into a fight with a man interested in investing in the town. When the businessman’s body is later found, Ethan’s friend is implicated in the crime.

Kathleen wants to help her brother by solving the case, but she has no shortage of suspects from which to choose. Prior to his death, the investor was fighting like cats and dogs with lots of people. If this librarian wants more than a whisker’s chance of solving the case, she will need to rely on her trusty feline sidekicks, Owen and Hercules.

Advance Galley Reviews

Mayville Heights Free Public Library is located in Minnesota. The head librarian is Kathleen Paulson. Kathleen lives with her two special once feral cats who followed her home. She kept both cats, Hercules & Owen. Hercules has a knack finding websites on her lap plus he can walk through wall. Owen has the knack of becoming invisible when he wants plus he loves taking things away by mouth. Kathleen’s brother and his band are visiting. One prospective band member gets into a fisticuff in a bar. The man who he fights with is in town because he wants to invest in the town. This man kicks a service dog of a veteran. Later the man is found dead. Who is this man? What is his background? Why did he pick this town? Kathleen along with her boyfriend, Marcus and the cats are on the case to find the killer. There is a quilt festival at the library which provides a colorful experience for the town and reader. A fast paced story from beginning to end with a cast of multifaceted, vivid, complex characters. The cats make the story more interesting. This is book # 11 in the Magical Cats Mysteries series. It can be read as a stand alone. A well written story for everyone to enjoy. I volunteered to read A Night’s Tail. Thanks to Penguin’s First-to-Read Program for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.

A Night's Tail by Sofie Kelly 4 stars (paws) A new mystery featuring Kathleen Paulson and her two super cats - Hercules and Owen. Ethan, Kathleen's younger brother is on tour with his band, The Flaming Gerbils. He is staying with Kathleen while performing in the area. Kathleen, Marcus (her boyfriend), Maggie and Brady are at a local bar when they witness a drunk kick a service dog. The drunk is new in town and looking to invest and start a business. Needless to say, most people who have met Lewis Wallace thinks he is an obnoxious jerk. Kathleen is meeting with the manager of the local hotel, when she find the body of the Lewis Wallace in one of the meeting rooms. One of Ethan's band mates is questioned because of the argument in the bar. Kathleen is reluctant to get involved, but because one of the suspects works with Ethan she puts on her detective hat. However, she in not a lone detective and she has help from friends and her boyfriend Marcus who is the police detective officially assigned to the case. There are a few red herrings (sardines) floating around this book, but the guilty party is found. As always the antics of Hercules and Owen (and now Micah) make a fun cozy mystery more enjoyable. I always look forward to hearing what the cats have to say about the mystery and they seem to have a knack for pointing out a CLUE. Thank you First To Read for this ARC.

I love this series and this new book did not disappoint. Meeting Kathleen’s brother and seeing more of her family dynamics was great and I find myself looking forward to meeting her dad. This series and this book are fun and quick to read. My only complaint...having to wait for more!
